Thetis committee directs investigation of aquaculture site
The committee voted to investigate non-permitted uses in the marine area covered by a provincial licence for shellfish aquaculture at the entrance to Preedy Harbour.

The Thetis Island Local Trust Committee directed bylaw enforcement staff to investigate non-permitted uses in the marine area where the province issued Licence of Occupation No. V931804, after voting to take three other steps concerning the proposed aquaculture operation.[1]
The committee also asked staff to draft a letter to the applicant stating that the licence does not change the land-use bylaws, which do not permit marine aquaculture in the area, and that rezoning is required.[1]
The committee asked the Islands Trust Executive Committee to advocate to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs about issues surrounding the licence, and directed communications staff to prepare a short statement for local circulation on E-Spokes.[1]
The staff report said the province had issued a 30-year licence for aquaculture at the entrance to Preedy Harbour, where aquaculture is not a permitted use under the applicable land-use bylaws. It also said rezoning applications submitted in 2020 and 2022 had been denied and the files closed.[1]
