Thetis committee advances rainwater, fence and vehicle bylaw review
Staff will prepare a project charter for proposed Land Use Bylaw updates, with public input on rainwater catchment to take place before draft amendments are prepared.

The Thetis Island Local Trust Committee asked staff to prepare a project charter for a minor project covering rainwater, fences and derelict vehicles, with the committee to consider the charter at a future meeting.[1]
Trustee Ken Hunter said he wanted public input before deciding whether rainwater catchment should be required for new construction, citing concerns about cost and whether the requirement was necessary.[2] Planner Margot Thomaidis said consultation would take place before staff drafted bylaw amendments, giving the public an opportunity to comment on whether to include a rainwater-catchment requirement.[2]
The committee’s discussion also covered possible fence setbacks from the sea and height limits, as well as changing the bylaw definition of a derelict vehicle.[1] Bylaw Compliance and Enforcement Manager Warren Dingman said Thetis had a five-year period for an unlicensed vehicle to be considered derelict and said a period shorter than five years would be preferable.[2]
The committee also removed an administrative bylaw project for soil deposit and removal from its Future Projects list.[1]
