Thetis Island: election results and bylaw check

Preliminary count. Freshwater work proposed for the new term. Checked October 21, 2026.

The Thetis Firestarter · Governance · 2026-10-21 · updated 2026-10-22 · Thetis Island

Trustee election

Preliminary count. Ken Hunter: 167 votes (leading, preliminary); David Reay: 122 votes (leading, preliminary); Terry Martin: 102 votes; Jim Senetza: 37 votes. The Trust labels these counts preliminary. The top two are shown as leading, pending an official declaration.[1]

Freshwater work proposed for the new term

The August 25 draft minutes request an early-term orientation on the regional district’s Drinking Water and Watershed Protection program and the Trust’s Freshwater Sustainability Strategy (TH-2026-035). They also request a letter supporting coordination (TH-2026-036). These records do not establish adoption of a new bylaw.[2]

Other local votes

Cowichan Valley’s signed October 19 declaration names Jesse McClinton elected as Electoral Area G, Saltair/Gulf Islands, director. That regional-district office is separate from the Thetis Trust seats. The declaration was visually checked because the PDF has no usable text layer.[3]

The new term

The Trust says trustees will be sworn into office on November 12, followed by Council meetings on November 13 and 14. Current officeholders remain in office until the new term. The Council meeting will include elections for the Executive Committee and Conservancy Board positions.[4]

This is a dated public-record check, covering the local trust area and its associated islands. A preliminary count is not an official declaration; readings, approval and adoption are separate steps. Candidate vote totals are not a count of voters. Regional-district and school electoral boundaries differ from Trust-area boundaries; other offices are identified separately. This check is not a full re-audit of every bylaw.
