Thetis Island trustees asked staff to prepare a project charter for proposed Land Use Bylaw updates covering rainwater, fences and derelict vehicles, with the committee to consider the charter at a future meeting.[1]
The discussion included whether new development should require rainwater catchment. Trustee Ken Hunter said he wanted public input before proceeding, citing concerns about cost and whether residents wanted the requirement; staff said consultation could take place before drafting amendments.[2]
Trustees also discussed possible fence setbacks from the sea and height limits, and changing the bylaw’s definition of a derelict vehicle. Bylaw Compliance and Enforcement Manager Warren Dingman said Thetis had a five-year period for an unlicensed vehicle to be considered derelict, and said a shorter period would be preferable.[2]
The committee’s motion passed, asking staff to prepare a charter for the targeted amendments, with scope and objectives set by the committee.[1] Trustee Peter Luckham said the charter would set out steps, public engagement and any required budget, and would return to the committee for consideration.[2]
