The Thetis Island Local Trust Committee voted to add Penelakut Tribe Ferry Advisory Committee members or a designate to the invite list for a meeting about disturbance of the burial site at the BC Ferries terminal, and endorsed Trustee Doug Fenton to work with the Ferry Advisory Committee chair to engage with the Penelakut Tribe. [1]
The discussion arose from a follow-up action concerning the terminal site. Trustee Fenton said the path through the area was still being used after stairs had been removed, and described discussions about finding an alternative route. [1]
Trustee Peter Luckham said the issue also involved traffic congestion and shoreline erosion, and said continued disturbance of the burial site was unacceptable. [1]
The committee discussed whether funding might be needed for an elder’s honorarium or expenses for a councillor or staff member to attend; the minutes say this could be considered through a Resolution-Without-Meeting. [1]
The meeting was held electronically on August 30, 2022, and was recorded and live streamed, according to the minutes. [1]
