Proponents of antenna systems in the Thetis Island Local Trust Area will be asked to consult with the local area representative and provide archaeological information before siting a system, under a standing resolution adopted by the Local Trust Committee on July 5, 2022.[1]
The resolution says proponents will identify First Nations rights and titleholders during pre-consultation and are recommended to consult the Islands Trust and a First Nations cultural knowledge holder about cultural and sacred sites.[1]
It also calls for a response from the BC Archaeology Branch on proximity to known archaeological sites or areas of archaeological potential, and an archaeological impact assessment for systems proposed on or within 100 metres of specified sites.[1]
The committee adopted the Islands Trust Model Strategy for Antenna Systems before approving the standing resolution; both motions carried.[1]
