The bylaw would allow regular meetings to be held electronically, Regional Planning Manager Heather Kauer told the Thetis Island Local Trust Committee at its Jan. 24 special meeting. Kauer said staff support was still needed to allow the public to attend and speak at electronic meetings.[1]
The committee gave Bylaw No. 111 first, second and third readings, with Chair Laura Patrick opposed to each reading, and voted to forward it to the Islands Trust Secretary for Executive Committee approval.[1]
Patrick proposed removing sections on delegations, invited presentations and public participation so the committee could consider them at a regular meeting. Trustee Peter Luckham said he supported those sections, including their aim of making meetings safe for staff and the public; the committee proceeded with the bylaw without the proposed removal.[1]
The committee also asked the Financial Planning Committee to consider allocating resources from the 2022/23 fiscal-year budget to support electronic meetings. The motion carried.[1]
The meeting was held electronically and adjourned at 11:29 a.m., according to the minutes.[1]
